17th. March 2012 also turns out to be St. Patrick’s-day, so we are pulling the previous advertised “Meeks Cutoff”, which was another Western, and has had rather indifferent reviews, in favour of another themed evening, which proved so popular with Mamma Mia. Whilst we are unlikely to emulate the success that we had with that film, experience has shown that VH events, where food is served, have in the past proved most successful, so a good Irish film, perhaps “Finnegan’s Wake” with Pet Clarke, and a warming bowl of Irish Stew, accompanied by a bottle of house red, may well hit the mark. We are open to suggestions!
21st. April 2012 is the well-known favourite “Cabaret”, with Liza Minelli, though if we do show a musical in March this is also subject to change. Perhaps the” Kings Speech” would benefit from a second viewing.
Let us know what you think, there are some cracking films out now, which we could get for next season, the remake of Jane Eyre is already available on DVD, and a new film called “The Help”, which is receiving good reviews, and which will be available for the 2012/2013 season.
Attendance figures suffered this year, due to the huge popularity of “Strictly”, on Saturday night TV. with the demographic group who regularly attend our films, thankfully that will be over after Christmas, and the second series of “The Killing” is either best watched recorded or as a box set.. We are unique amongst the various Film Clubs in the local area, in having the largest screen and the best sound, also we have a licensed bar and delicious local ice cream, from “Backford Belles”, so why not come along and give us a try? If we could attract only 10% of the people reading the Parish Magazine, & the Mollington and Saughall Handbook, we would be very well placed indeed. At present there is a loyal audience with a core of about 30 people, who regularly attend, however if some of them happen to be away, then our attendance figures suffer, so if we could increase the core group to a 100, then even if 50% are doing something else, then we would still have a good turnout, of course if everyone came we would struggle to seat them all, but as statistics go, this is a highly unlikely scenario.
Put it on your calendar, 3rd Saturday in the month at 7.30pm. Doors open 6.45p.m. The cost is £5 for adults, and half price for the under 16s. See further details on the VH website, where we are soon to have our own page. www.mbdvh.org.uk

We are taking a break during December, but will be back on 21st January 2012 with a film called “Truly. Madly, Deeply.” This is a story about a young woman’ who’s boyfriend dies tragically, but who then returns from the after life. At first she welcomes this, but it soon becomes trying, when Jamie starts to bring home ghostly friends. This film has become a cult movie, with some collector’s version of the DVD changing hands on Amazon, at over a £100. |
